The Collins22 Society, Glasnevin Commemoration 14 Aug 2022
The Collins22 Society were honoured today (14 Aug 2022) to be invited to place a wreath ‘after’ the Collins Griffith Commemoration in Glasnevin. Our Dublin team who attend the grave each week were also honoured to have our work acknowledged at the beginning of An Tánaiste Varadkar’s speech, and that of the late Denis Lenihan.
After the event, we presented several of Michael Collins’ relatives with a Michael Collins Centenary Medal, which waa designed by our member Eric Copperthwaite, one of which was presented to An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, and another to Martin Galligan, Heritage Manager of Glasnevin Cemetery. Several people were also presented with a copy of my book ‘Forgotten Fallen’, and what an appropriate place to receive one, right at the National Army plot.
Arthur Griffith’s grave was also visited and wreaths placed at his and that of Eamon Duggan.
Great to see our Defence Forces present and the presence of the Sliabh na mBan Armoured car also. Huge crowds attended this memorable event in the warm August sunshine, but above all, it was really great to catch up with old friends again and to make new ones.
A special thanks to the Collins Griffith Commemoration group, and also to ‘Absolutely Fabulous Flowers’ who created our wonderful wreath for us.
