Birmingham event for Collins 22 Society

THE RECENT Irish Post article announcing the launch of the Michael Collins 22 Society in Britain attracted a lot of attention.

And because of the feedback organisers are pushing forward with a plan to extend activities.

Midlands-based Martin Dunne — who is the British representative of the society — said: “The amount of interest shown was so good that we are now going ahead with a very special evening in Birmingham on October 4.

“We have managed to put together some brilliant guest speakers and there is a showing of Kenneth Griffith’s film Hang Out Your Brightest Colours which documents the life and death of Michael Collins.”

In addition to the film screening the speakers includes two relations of Michael Collins — Michael O’Mahony and Nora Owens.

Nora Owens is a former Minister for Justice. Other speakers are Collins 22 Society members Bill Martin and Noel Coonan TD The event takes place on Saturday, October 4 in the main function room at the Ruskin Hall pub in Victoria Road, Aston, Birmingham.

The evening gets under way at 8pm with an admission charge of £5 which includes refreshments.
